Since spring 2024, we at Berit Clinic have been using the VELYS™ robot-assisted system for knee replacement surgeries. The VELYS™ robot combines the surgeon's expertise and years of experience with state-of-the-art technology.
Functionality and technology
The VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution is designed to improve surgical precision. This CT-free system provides the surgeon with information to place the prosthesis even more precisely.
After exposing the joint and attaching reflectors, the surface of the affected joint is scanned. A 3D model of the joint is then created, including the ligaments and the leg axis. The surgeon can then plan the individual surgical steps on the screen. The system then simulates the expected outcome before the actual bone preparation is performed. The surgeon then performs the planned saw cuts together with the system's robotic arm.
A high-speed camera, the three-dimensional mobility of the robotic arm, and the hydrophobic optical reflectors work together to adjust the resection plane in real time. This ensures precise and consistent execution of the plan. This system allows the prosthesis to be customized for each patient and optimally inserted. Previous data show that this surgical technique can shorten healing times and improve functional outcomes.
